Educational Philosophy

My educational philosophy emphasizes excellence in teaching and information gathering. I feel that is my obligation to bring to students’ attention the current best practices in our profession and facilitate their explorations, while grounding them in the philosophical foundations that give meaning to our endeavors.

  • I attempt to bring real-world problems to students, and assist in their explorations of pragmatic solutions.
  • I have consistently attempted to approach teaching and learning with a non-judgmental attitude, and an open mind to the diversity of approaches within our profession.
  • My goal has been to instill in students a love of “learning how to learn”, and an investigatory approach to new information, using critical thinking.
  • I have a strong sense of an educator’s fiduciary responsibility to guide the learning process without dogmatic intervention.
  • I attempt to have utmost respect for the students’ rights of autonomy, self-direction and individuality, and expect the same for myself.

Entering my fourth decade of interaction with students, I joyfully embrace the technology of the twenty first century in its application to education, and eagerly anticipate new additions to my repertoire of lectures on video, lectures on DVD and MP3, student forums, blogs and podcasts.

I feel a strong obligation to my students to prepare them with the best current tools and knowledge of our trade, and I also feel a compelling responsibility to the patients that my students will ultimately serve as health-care professionals. It is their right to expect excellence from their doctors of chiropractic, and it is my obligation to see that they get it.
